Overview of a Canine Hernia
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
Toy Poodles
Hernias are common in puppies and can occur in a variety of ways. The good news is most are easily treatable.
A hernia occurs when abdominal organs or fatty tissue protrude through a weak spot in the muscle or the connective tissue.
Different Puppy Hernias
-
Umbilical: the belly button should close shortly after birth but can in some cases remain open
-
Inguinal: the inguinal canal is in the area of the groin
-
Diaphragmatic: the diaphragm can have two types of hernia, the Hiatal and the Peritoneopericardial
2022: If a puppy hernia is identified while the pup is with CameronCavs then CameronCavs will pay for the operation and you will have a letter to confirm that we will pay the cost. Sometimes it is recommended by the vets to leave a hernia operation until the pup is 6 months old or in for being neutered.
